Informatica e crisi

Nella testimonianza di ieri al Congresso, Greenspan attribuisce parte della crisi all'informatica:

Business decisions by financial services firms were based on

the best insights of mathematicians and finance experts, supported by major advances in computer technology.
The whole intellectual edifice, however, collapsed in the summer of last year because the data inputted into the risk management models generally covered only the past two decades — a period of euphoria.

A sua volta Christopher Cox, chairman della SEC, afferma
Cox also pointed to a 2004 decision by the SEC to loosen its capital rules and agree to instead rely on the computer models for assessing risks — a decision that essentially outsourced regulatory duties to Wall Street firms themselves.
Insomma: dati sbagliati e conflitto di interessi.
